Our Founder
Lumminos was founded by Julia Kerr Henkel in 2007. Julia is a certified PCC-level Integral Coach® through USA-based New Ventures West, the International Coach Federation and the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business Centre for Coaching.
Two of her highest values include Courage and Learning. In March 2019, Julia trained with Dr. Brené Brown and is now a Certified Dare to Lead ™ Facilitator of Brené’s work and research.
She holds many other certifications in the study of the Enneagram, Wendy Palmer’s Leadership Embodiment practices, Family and Systemic Constellations for Business.
She chooses to work with like-minded associates, organisations and individuals who are sincere about investing in long-term growth, human and business development.
Julia is also an Organisational Development Program Designer and Facilitator, seasoned Communications and People Change Management consultant and Keynote Speaker. With her team of ICF accredited associates, Julia primarily works with corporate Exco, senior management teams, professional and private individuals who are often dealing strategic, leadership, relationship, interpersonal communications and life-balance challenges and transitions.
Knowing that we change in biological time, all learning interventions need to be deliberate, well defined, fun and uniquely engaging at the level of head, heart and action and so Lumminos’ programs and processes draw on a number of approaches ranging from the obvious to the daring and extraordinary! Lumminos is also responsible for establishing corporate coaching panels for those who wish to outsource this necessary function and yet want the confidence that their internal program is being managed by people with integrity and is in line with their business’ core needs and performance objectives.
Outside of the corporate realm, Julia is passionate about growing the level of professionalism and expanding the beneficial reach of coaching in South Africa and beyond. With Lita Currie of 3Stickmen, she designed Kickstart your Coaching Business – a series of workshops for newly certified coaches to assist them to boost their practices so they can be of service to others in a credible and sustainable way.
Behind the roles of MD and Professional Coach – post an Arts degree in Psychology and European languages, Julia started her career working in Equity Research for Goldman Sachs in London for four years. In 2000, she earned directorship and Exco positions at public relations and communications agencies College Hill and TBWA\ Magna Carta where she ran the Standard Bank account. Recovering from burnout and seeking more autonomy and professional meaning, Julia started Lumminos in 2007.
Julia is happily married to Vaughan. She is an aunt and stepmother to young adults, a half-marathon and social runner, a NIA Blue Belt trained dancer, intrepid traveller and somewhat obsessive learner. She loves her two Maine Coon cats Sabba and Cara, reading, spotting birds and all things related to good connection, conversation, food, culture and non-peaty whisky.
