What is the Enneagram?

More than a personality typology, the Enneagram, (pronounced ANY-a-gram), is a profound map that illuminates the nine different architectures of the human personality illuminating the varying ways individuals think, act, feel and respond to situations. It is also the most powerful and practical system available for increasing emotional intelligence, with insights that can be used for personal and professional development.

Business Applications

Because the Enneagram is cross-cultural and highly accurate, with many work-related applications, it is currently being used by organisations locally and worldwide in a wide variety of business applications, with new uses constantly emerging. Most organizations begin using the Enneagram to increase communication, foster feedback cultures, respond more skillfully to stress and conflict, and enrich leadership styles and then move to applications such as creating high-performing teams, informing decision making, developing future-focused leadership competencies, enhancing sales performance, creating team cultures of commitment and engagement, and more.

What is the process of discovery?

Depending on your intention and objectives bespoke interventions are designed aimed at first, typing the individual/s and then unpacking the power of the system and mapping the individual or teams to reveal the deeper dynamics.

The process of typing is determined through:

  1. a) Online questionnaires using the reporting technology of South African based Integrative9’s IEQ9 reports for Individuals, Professionals and Teams and/or
  2. b) Intuitive discovery using typing tool cards by Ginger Lapid-Bogda’S The Enneagram in Business for individuals seeking personal development
  3. c) One-to-one debriefs by an accredited Enneagram Coach helps people make sense of the feedback report and if the individual is in coaching can provide useful input into areas of development.

For organisations, interactive, highly experiential workshops are also offered – these range from 3-hour introductory overviews, 2-day off sites to 6-month team and organizational deep process immersions.

How can working with the Enneagram improve performance?

The Enneagram helps individuals and teams develop greater self-awareness and self-acceptance and take personal responsibility for their behavior.

This changes the pattern of holding others accountable for their problems and difficulties, and instead creates a pattern of individuals taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

This enables employees at all levels to become actors in their environments rather than passive recipients.

Working with an accredited coach, the Enneagram can be used to provide specific development paths and activities tailored to each Enneagram style so that development time is spent more efficiently and results are clear and long lasting.

Where does the Enneagram come from?

The word enneagram comes from two Greek words ennea (“nine”) and gram (“something written or drawn”) and refers to the nine points on the Enneagram symbol.

The nine different Enneagram styles, identified as numbers One through Nine, reflect distinct habits of thinking, feeling, and behaving, with each style connected to key strengths and a unique path of development.

Did you know?

According to a Harvard Business Review study (2015), employees were asked what mattered most in a coworker: someone who was competent or someone who was easy to work with. Most replied that while they preferred coworkers with both attributes, they would pick someone easy to work with if forced to choose between the two.

Although having the right skills is an essential ingredient of high-quality job performance, emotional intelligence (EQ) – the ability to accept and manage oneself and the capability to work effectively with other people – is equally important. In fact, people with high EQ tend to be more successful, more flexible, better learners, and more desirable coworkers, managers and leaders.
